Clergy vs Obama

Earlier this week I seriously considered becoming a member of the pro-life group.  Got irritated with some ministers, mostly in the New York area who are reportedly urging their congregation to stay home on Election Day and to not vote for with Mitt Romney or Barack Obama.  Their beef with Romney is over the Mormon thing.  With the president the snub comes because of his stand on gay marriage.  Earlier this year Obama supported gay marriage and that has some religious leaders outraged.  Their position has me pissed off.

Personally I am not for gay marriage.  However I do not want my government in that.  Similarly I am not for abortions.  I think it is murder.  In fact until you can prove that that fetus is not alive inside the mother that unborn child is alive.  But, again I do not want the government in that either.  With abortion rights you allow the government to dictate then they won't stop there.  They will intrude more in my life.

But back to the gay marriage issue.  How dare the Black clergy choose THAT particular issue to protest.  Mitt Romney has pledged nothing to help people of color or seniors or the poor.  He can't even bring us jobs.  The only thing he can do is lower taxes for the wealthy.  If he gets elected it will mean trouble for the people who are already struggling.    If you thought the crime rate was growing now, you haven't seen anything yet as more young people go jobless and grow more desperate.

There are other ways for the clergy to prove their shaky point.  Why do I say shaky?  I HATE the gay marriage argument.  The self righteous love to go to the bible when it comes to the gay issue.   I am not gay, but I am gay-tolerant.  As for the religious aspects, that is between you and God.  But why is it that according to these people God ONLY frowns on homosexuals.  Last I recalled there are TEN Commandments in the Bible and people routinely break those.  In my experience people go soft on issues they are weak in, meaning thieves tend to be soft on condemning other thieves. I guess a lot of the clergy speaking out have never been in same sex situations so they will go hard on homosexuals.    This means they have no tolerance on same sex marriages.  Other issues, like adultery go unnoticed.  Forget the fact that most politicians lie.  Even though the act is frowned upon in the Bible there is no commandment regarding it.  Yet the clergy is here to condemn Obama for his stand on it.  Mind you, he is not necessarily endorsing it.  The man is in a traditional marriage.  I think his act was more of a sign of tolerance than anything else.

SO it got me thinking.  A lot of conservatives are against gay marriage and also pro-life.  As I mentioned earlier abortion IS murder.  I chose to be pro-choice for the reasons I mentioned earlier plus I think the female has the right to decide if she wants to keep that child in her for nine months.  But, since murder is in the Bible why don't the clergy go after candidates who support abortions?  They are in fact supporting murder.  Probably because it is politically correct to support women on this issue. If you have a wife or a girlfriend you had BETTER support them on abortion rights.  It is also hypocritical.  Hey clergy:  IF you choose to protest against Obama for the gay marriage issue, don't stop there.  Go after pols who are pro-choice.  In the meantime I hope you have the resources to assist those people in need if Romney wins the elections

Books-a-Million

I am in Books-a-Million right now using their free wifi.  Actually it is free because I rejoined their club for a modest fee.  Wifi is free to their club members.  I was actually here earlier during the week.  I met a very nice couple, probably in their 70s or 80s.  Extremely nice.  We spoke a few times while I was checking my emails and electronically entering my time and attendance for work.  I just saw them again today.  The wife remembered me and thought it was so nice to hear someone laugh and for them to be able to laugh.  I went on You-tube and was laughing at some Sam Kinison skit on IN LIVING COLOR.   She told me that in her household there is a lot of pain and a little gloom because of arthritis.  I felt bad for her.  On one hand it is wonderful to make it to your golden years.  What good is it if you have to be in chronic pain?

Mitt Romney fundraiser remarks

Three in four Americans feel little or no personal connection to Romney, Esquire/Yahoo poll finds

Three in four Americans feel they have little or nothing in common with Mitt Romney, while nearly 60 percent feel the same way about President Barack Obama, according to an Esquire/Yahoo! News poll.
In the wake of Romney's remarks dismissing nearly half of Americans as self-identified victims who are dependent on government—videotaped at a donor event earlier this year and posted online this week by Mother Jones magazine—these new numbers are more bad news for a candidate struggling to connect with ordinary Americans. The margin of error for the survey, conducted shortly after the two national political conventions, is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
Further complicating the Republican ticket's image problem is that a Romney presidency is viewed as significantly more beneficial to wealthy Americans than a second Obama term would be. Sixty-two percent of those surveyed said the wealthy would be better off under Romney than Obama. That split reverses when Americans were asked who would benefit the poor: 57 percent say Obama, 30 say Romney.
74 percent of Americans feel they have little or nothing in common with Romney.
Obama is seen as better for poor Americans than Romney. The opposite is true for rich Americans.
Obama leads Romney by 10 points on the question of whose presidency would be more beneficial to the middle class, 48 percent to 38 percent.
To top things off, 44 percent think that taxes are too low on those earning over $250,000 a year—a core tenet of Obama’s campaign. Another 12 percent said taxes on high earners are too high, and 28 percent said the tax rate was about right.
44 percent of people think those making more than $250K should pay higher taxes.
Meanwhile, with chaos in the Middle East throwing attention back to foreign policy this election, it appears that Obama holds a slight edge over Romney on a crucial foreign policy issue: more Americans trust Obama to lead the armed forces in the event of a war (46 percent) than trust Romney to do so (37 percent), with 5 percent trusting neither man.
People trust Obama more than Romney in the event of war.
Yet, despite the administration's frequent touting of the death of Osama bin Laden, when Americans were asked which candidate instills more fear in al Qaeda, the President emerged with no advantage over Romney.
Respondents were split on which candidate al Qaeda fears more.
"It seems that, as effective as Democrats have been in neutralizing the Republicans’ historic advantage in the matter of national security, there remains a core group of Americans who still believe the GOP is the party of big sticks," writes Esquire in its analysis of the poll. Head over to Esquire's The Politics Blog for their complete analysis.
The poll was conducted among a random national sample of 1,002 adults from Sept. 7 to Sept. 10. The respondents were contacted by landline and cellular telephone.

9/17

I am currently in Daytona Beach, assisting Mom.  I got a lot covered this past week. Mom had two doctor appointments and some blood work.  She also had her lights and water off.  I had to take care of that.  Her primary doctor postponed her appointment until September 24, but I took care of everything else.  I now may stay until the 24th.  Bad because I do not like Florida. Actually, I hate Florida.    Too much heat, too much humidity and too many thunderstorms.  I can tolerate it more between October and March but I prefer not to be down here.

Done for now

I came to Florida last week to make sure Mom made some doctor's appointments and got some blood work done.  For the most part I accomplished my goals.

On Friday I got her blood work done and I got her hearing aid checked and cleaned. Thursday I got her ears checked.  Monday and Tuesday  I got the electricity and the water turned back on.  I even went with her and my aunt to their AARP meeting.    I would have taken her to her primary physician Friday but he changed her appointment to September 24.  I have to now decide if I can stay the extra days for this or do I let Volusia Council on the Aged handle this.  I am leaning towards staying until the appointment then leaving that evening. Even if I go back to New York on my original date this was a productive visit.  My next visit, God willing, should be in December.

HOMELESS NEWS

This is insane.  If the authorities are afraid of sickness from bad food why are they not making arrangements for the homeless to get access to food before it gets to the point of spoilage?

HOMELESS NEWS

I was stunned when I saw this.  However I am not overly shocked.  To be honest before I saw the video I expected the homeless guy to be Black.  There really needs to be a study as to why any person of color is a threat.  That guy would have been shot if he was armed with a pencil:

ELDER NEWS

I know about this company in the last two video posts.  In fact my aunt deals with them.  Thank God there have been no problems like that.  I wish I had one answer as to how to prepare for horrific events like that.   The candidates for the 2012 presidential elections are saying a lot but nothing to seriously protect the elderly or the homeless.

9/11/2012

Next to July 4th and Halloween this is my least favorite day. My thoughts and prayers still go out to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. I still remember running down 14 flights of steps in a federal building. We knew the World Trade Center got hit with one plane.  After the second one we at least suspected terrorism and of course didn't know if the federal building would be hit next.  TO this day I am leery about going higher than a particular floor. If my job chose to move to the new World Trade Center I would be jobless because I will never go in there.  Is it because of terrorism?  No I don't trust authority.  I could see them keeping us in the building while something goes down.

Homeless in Central Florida: Hope for a Better Life

Mitt Romney: "Friends Like This, Who Needs Enemies"

Repubs for Obana

I am in Florida to take my mother to a few doctor's appointments.  Come to find out that President Barack Obama is also in Florida.  The news caught his latest campaign stop and a repubican was supposed to be bringing him in.  Found out there is a group called Republicans for Obamahttp://www.republicansforobama.org/

President Obama

Here is the president's acceptance speech:

I say four more years. The worse I can say about President is that he wasn't able to fully turn around the damage he inherited from eight years of republican destruction.  I want him to have four more years.  It would be nice to get a deomcratic lead senate and house

Off topic one more time but...

Before I even start my condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims in the Pathmark shootings last week.

Proper etiquette demands I do that.

I am becoming obsessed with the Terence Tyler case.

Not really just his case but cases similar to this.  Tyler is accused of going  into Pathmark and opening fire on his co-workers.  He supposedly was working there for about two weeks.  According to various news reports Tyler "tweeted" about killing people.

It is easy to make a public outcry for tougher gun control but I would like to know more about a person who wants to kill like that.  Not that he is a hero, because he is not.  he is a case study..  Learning about Tyler and folks like him might help prevent more cases like this.

I never knew

I never knew that the GOP stood for "Grand Old Party".  That's accding to wikipedia.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I am an Independent.  However since there apparently is no "Independent Party" in New York I am a registered Democrat but I am independent.  I vote the way I want.  I vote more democratic than republican.  I tend to feel that women have a right to decide for themselves if they can have an abortion or not.  I don't think the republicans can fix the current jobless situation and I have no desire to see wealthy people get wealthier while the homeless flood the streets

FOR THOSE NEEDING HELP

These are some links to some information on alcoholism.  It is intended for a friend in need but I thought it would be even more beneficial for people who happen along my blog.

Before my father passed away last year he spent years going to Alcohol Anonymous meetings.  He had a drinking problem for years and throught the grace of God had his last drink of booze in 1984.  Before that date he suffered a divorce and numerous hospitizations including a stay to remove his gall bladder and a bout of pancreatitus.  One of his brothers lost his life to cancer and had a problem drinking.  His other brother also drank heavily and died in an accident.  I have some history.

http://alcoholism.about.com/cs/info2/a/blfam.htm

This site is from about.com but I found the information practical and very helpful.  Sometimes you don't need high tech stuff.  You just need the basics.

Narconon had interesting information as well.

http://www.narconon.org/drug-rehab/alcoholic-family.html

Bottom line is in order to help a loved one you have to arm yourself with knowledge.  If you are the person with the drinking problem those site could help you save your life and the sanity of your loved ones.

Sometime early this week I will add some links to sites that assist with this type of problem.

NEED TO DO BETTER

Woke up this morning (always a blessing as it beats the alternative) tired but I managed to get myself up and get to church.  I went to Brooklyn Tabernacle (I actually belong to another church but that is another story).  It took me two hours to get there so I was late and had to go to the annex across the street.  Service was good but I had to ignore the temptation of bashing the parents of babies would refused to keep quiet during the service.  I left Brooklyn Tab though feeling refreshened.  I am starving though.  Service started at noon and it is now 3:16.  I am JUST eating my breakfast.  I promised a few weeks ago that I would start taking better care of myself and I am off to a very poor start.  Promising myself I will do better.  It's one thing to have my first meal at 10.  It's another to eat at three in the afternoon.
