A break in the action

Off topics for a bit.  I have been hearing about this "Monsanto" for a minute now.  I can honestly say I still don't know as much as I would like but the limited amount I have heard makes me want to know more.  My father died from a cardiac arrest but for at least three years prior to his death he was diagnosed with having Alzheimer's Disease.  Now as I have mentioned in this blog, I am wary of that label.  Twenty years ago if you were old and forgetful the label you ggot was "senile".  Now "Alzheimer's" is the convenient tag.
I often wonder though if the foods we eat on a short on long term basis have anything to do with our health.  My gut says yes.  Additionally if you eat certain non food items you can get ill so it shouldn't be any different with stuff added to food.  We know certain additives are connected to cancer.  Let's not get into cigarettes and alcohol.
I recentlystopped eating certain items I found not to spoil.  I have stopped eating the pastry you see in the bodegas.  I am referring to the coffee cakes and packaged danishes that never seem to spoil no matter how far past the expiration date you keep it. That is my start.  I am already suspicious of how we have so much food readily available, but for now the pastries take the hit from me.  I am also working towards eating more healthy.  Granted, if people are tampering with fruits and vegetables I am done.  But for now its the best I can do until I grow my own.  Pretty scary that a company can think it is none of your business what is in your food you buy.  Even scarier that the people we put into office endorese the behavior.
