Journal entry #122 Home remedies

It has been over a month since New York City was ravaged by Covid19.  I have been blessed to have not gotten sick even though I still think I had a brush with this virus in December and January.  I know a few people who feel the same way.  If I stay blessed and avoid any serious issues with the corona virus I have God to thank along with diligence and a couple of home remedies.

I just started using the mask regularly when I go outside.  I am still a firm believer that for the most part you can get by this by avoiding people and washing your hands often.  The masks are better for closed in environments, when you can't enforce social distancing and if you have the virus.  If I am on the public transportation a mask is a must and thankfully Governor Cuomo just made mask use an executive order.

My saline solution may be a life saver.   I use that bottle everyday.  Originally I used it because of my allergies.  Rinsing my sinuses with saline solution got a lot of allergens out of my nose and helped prevent sinus infections.  It is not a cure but a good preventative measure.  So I figured if it can help against allergies why not against Covid19.

Normally, during allergy season pollen (and whatever else I am allergic to) goes in my nose.  I can feel it in the back of my sinuses.  After a while that causes a post nasal drip and that irritates the back of my throat and my tonsils making me have a dry cough.  In the past if I didn't take care of that issue the now infection goes into my lungs and I can develop bronchitis or at the least a heavy upper respiratory infection.  Thank God I haven't had the heavy chest congestion in years, but I learned that the easiest way to avoid them is to use preventive care meaning, deal with the sinus issue early on and take my Zyrtec.  If the Zyrtec isn't working see my ear, nose and throat doctor early.  And use that saline solution.

In November and December I was getting these sinus infections rapidly.  They came out of nowhere and it seems like nothing was working.  Granted, I wasn't using the saline solution like I should.  I was getting the dry cough and had to be prescribed Prednisone.  Maybe that prepared me mentally for Corvid19 because since the beginning of March I have been using that solution everyday and I have not had any problems. I am praying it won't be necessary soon.
